Young Swiss businessman, Jean Henry Dunant was appalled by the conditions of the wounded soldiers in the battle at Solferino in the year 1859. So he arranged relief services immediately. He wrote the book ‘Memory of solferino’ suggesting a neutral organization for wounded soldiers. An international conference was held in Geneva and thus the Red Cross was started in the year 1864. In our campus (Madras Institute of Technology) YRC activities were started in the year 2002.

Vision Companions

This is a social activity in our college that goes on every day from 5-7 pm with the help of MITians, that focus on helping visually challenged with their academics by reading and recording lessons for them. We also work as scribe when there is a requirement. Interacting with our visually challenged brothers and knowing their experiences serves as a revelation.

Blood Line and Blood Donation Camp

The most important and life-saving activities of Youth Red Cross-MIT is BLOOD DONATION. Our organization pays much importance and endurance to this part of activity, by immediately responding to the requirements by arranging donors. We also conduct blood donation camps twice a year, one during odd and another during even semester.

Green Team

It is one of the active processes carried out by the volunteers to keep our college environment green and to ensure a very peaceful atmosphere for the students. Every year around 50 plants are planted and nutured by GREEN TEAM of YRC.

Session

Weekly sessions are conducted to enrich volunteers with knowledge about social activities by arranging a motivational speech every week by an expert in any desired field. Sometimes interactive and campus cleaning sessions are carried out.

Home Visit

Helping one person might not change the whole world, but it could change the world for one person. With that noble motto YRC plans two home visits, every academic year, one during odd semester and another during even semester. We some fruitful time with the kids by conducting events and encouraging them with small gifts.

YouthFest

Youthfest, is an cultural activity that is carried out for our visually challenged brothers and sisters to motivate them and help them to identify their hidden talents. YouthFest was introduced in 2014, and the fifth edition of Youthfest took place this year on March 10,2019. We sincerely thank our staffs, seniors and sponsors for helping us to organize this successful event.

Foundation :

   The students who are proficient in sports and other students interested in sports become members of the NSO which is divided into 6 units 

    MIT students are very active and participated in various sports events and brought many distinctions in various sports and games and earned a very good name and fame to MIT.

AIM :

      Everyone should realise that they should contribute in some way to the  society which nurtured them. 

      We, at the ROTARACT CLUB OF MIT strive in every possible way to install the seeds of service among the students.

ACTIVITIES :

ORPHANAGE VISIT: 

      Visits are made to the near by orphanages on weekends and on special occasions. We provide the children with needed mental strength and other essential things. Maximum of 3 visits are made every semester.

GOONJ:  

       We collect old clothes and books from our students and make themreach the needy in states like Orissa and so on. 

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS: 

       Paint your birthday in new colours –Rotaract Club organises your birthday celebration at an orphanage – more joy and more wishes will come your way!

SEMINAR:

       Seminars on EXNORA (solid waste management), Tobacco &Smoking hazards and career guidance are planned to be conducted for our college students.

ROTOFEST:

       An annual festival for the differently abled children. It holds at MIT premises.

SPARISH:

       A festival for orphanage children. During which various events are conducted and lots of prizes are given out to encourage the young talents of the children. Lunch is provided at our mess and MIT students entertain the children for the whole day.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP:

       A Blood Donation Camp is organised every year in association with Youth Red Cross.

TREKKING :

       First Year Students are taken to Tirusulam hillock every year.

SCHOOL TEACHING

      Volunteers from RC of MIT visit the nearby government schoold on periodic basis regularly involving themselves in teaching the students their academic subjects

R.O PLANT SETUP

      A reverse osmosis plant was setup free of cost at seven star home, madhuranthagam as a part of Christmas evening.

ROTOPLUS:

       The monthly publication of Rotaract Club. The magazine contains articles written by young children in order to bring out their hidden potential. More than 1000 copies is published and distributed among the orphanages and our college.
