Nooh Nafees A R FACULTY ADVISORS Mr. B.Vasanthan Mr. S. Arun Prasad Team Hadron Performance of MIT, Chrompet won the First Prize in Best Design category in the national level electric two-wheeler design competition. Sustainability and engineering are indispensable for modernilty, The team of 10 Automobile undergraduate students from MIT, Anna university identified as the Hadron Performance designed an all-electric two-wheeler scooter named Hadron HP-1. They designed, engineered, prototyped and demonstrated a single seater pure EV scooter under the price tag of INR 60000/-. This national level competition had the participation of over 45 teams all over India. This event was conducted by SAE India Southern section and was hosted by SRM Institute of technology, Kattankulathur. The title of this grand event was "SAEISS Dr. G. Padmanabham Memorial Electric Two Wheeler Design Competition 2022" during the period of 17 & 18 October 2022. The team was formed in September 2021 and these 10 UG students had the zest and passion to become the best in the competition. They spent almost a year to prototype this EV. The process started with excitement and enthusiasm, a satisfaction of contributing green and clean energy to the planet earth. The importance of sustainability and future SDGs were the ones which drove the team to contribute the work. The process was under the mentorship of senior faculty advisors from MIT, and modern facilities were provided to the team by the institution. First step of the project included the design procedures and conceptual planning. Team was divided into 4 subsystems with each one assigned the task of innovating their part. Design reviews involved, manual design calculations, master layout, CAD assembly, CAE analysis and manufacturing drawings. They secured the second highest points in the design review 1. The next steps involved the cost estimation, business model creation and innovation in the systems. " The manufacturing and prototyping part of the project was highly productive with each member coming together to build the stunning piece of engineering" says Dhanusubashini, the captain of the team. Team went through many difficulties in manufacturing, yet they achieved maximum build quality of the vehicle. They were all set to compete with the best in the event at SRM. The scrutinizing tests involved in the event were, braking test, endurance range test, acceleration test, manoeuvrability test, bump test, technical inspections of the Hadron HP-1. The Hadron HP1 found it difficult in the braking and manoeuvrability tests due to its heavy weight of 76 Kg. Yet the sturdy build quality of the vehicle eased through the technical inspections. The team gave a simulated VC Business model and technical presentation to the panel members. The final day of the vent was fruitful for the team, with the success of winning the First place in best design award. The secured the overall 11th place. The next batch of the team is ready to work hard and better to achieve more, and innovate more, in building the electric mobility for the future with limitless sustainability.
