  ABOUT THE UG PROGRAMME

  The Department offers a 8-semester B.Tech. undergraduate programme in Automobile Engineering for those who have passed the Plus Two examinations. The total intake is 60 per year. It is a Credit-Based Curriculum with a proper blend of laboratory classes. Each theory subject carries 3 or 4 Credits , Practical Subjects in addition to Basic Engineering, Basic Sciences and Management Subjects.

  Students have to carry out a major project in the final year (Phase-I and Phase-II).

  
  ABOUT THE PG PROGRAMME

  Students are admitted to ME postgraduate programme in Automobile Engineering with a valid GATE score and based on their ranks. A few students are admitted under Non-GATE category also, based on their ranks in the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) conducted by Anna University. The intake is about 25 students. The first year PG programme emphasis on Advanced Theory and Design aspects. The second year is devoted to Project work (Phase-I and Phase-II) and approximately 75 % of the students take live industrial problems and work in the industry concerned to complete the project. This offers an opportunity for the University-Industry interaction. The rest 25% of the students carry out the project in the Department, which is mostly a research-oriented project guided by our staff members.

   AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRONICS LABORATORY 

   

             These days all automobiles are becoming electronically equipped. So, students have to learn about these electronic techniques. In this automotive electronics lab, the equipment’s available are a Measurement of Vibration using the Accelerometer, a LVDT module, Engine Crankshaft Sensor and Camshaft Sensor, Embedded system of Arm_7 Development Board, Digital Storage Oscilloscope, BLDC Motor Hall Effect Sensor, Temperature Measurement THERMOCOUPLE High speed Analysis of System-design PC-based Data Acquisition of Automotive Components are used in this lab.

   

  AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRICALS LABORATORY

  

             In Automotive Electricals laboratory students have to learn about auxiliary systems used in automobiles. In these automotive electricals lab, the equipment’s available are Lead Acid Battery, Starter motor, Alternator, Visualization of Engine Sensor, the Connection of Automobile lighting & Wiring systems, Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAPs) & Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAFs), Electrical Parameters (RLC) Circuits MATLAB Software, EV CHARGING and Automotive Parameters Circuits TYPHOON HIL Software are used in this lab.

   

  COMPUTER AIDED VEHICLE COMPONENTS DESIGN LABORATORY

   

             Design and analyzing of components is the key factor for engineering which is done in this lab. This lab consists of nearly 50 computers with latest configurations. Designing and simulating software’s are used for designing and analyzing.

   

  ENGINE TESTING AND EMISSION MEASUREMENT LABORATORY

  

   

  FUELS AND LUBRICANTS LABORATORY

  

               In Advanced Fuels Testing laboratory, fuel properties like density, viscosity, calorific value, flash point, fire point, pour point, cloud point, ash content, carbon residue can be measured. Computerized automatic flash point and Red Wood Viscometer are available for Research purpose.

  VEHICLE COMPONENTS LABORATORY

  

              To enhance the practical knowledge of the students, engines from some renowned industries are displayed (Ashok Leyland, Ford etc.). The various components of an automobile are also displayed (clutch, gearbox etc.). In this lab, the students will study about the basic principle involved in chassis components and engine components. And the students will perform various experiments like dismantling and assembling of engine and chassis components.

   

  VEHICLE TESTING LABORATORY

   

            As failure is stepping stone to success, it is rightful to say testing is the important quality of the vehicle. Hence this lab consists a two/three /four wheelers chassis dynamometers. It is a great honor for us to say that we are the only Educational institute to have the chassis dynamometer in India. The Students will come to know about the basics of how the vehicles are tested in the companies.

• Projects (4 Nos.)

   

  The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu has announced under the Rule 110 of TamilNadu Legislative Assembly during August 2016, for the establishment of Centre of Excellence for Automobile Technology (CEAT) to involve on developing a vehicle with low fuel consumption and low carbon-di-oxide emission at MIT Campus, Anna University at a cost of Rs.50.00 crore. A new building of 2700Sq.Mt area was constructed for CEAT which consists of 9 laboratories in thrust area of Automobile Engineering.

  As Government of Tamil Nadu share, Rs 10 Crore has been released to Anna University, Chennai to establish the Centre. In order to achieve the objectives, the faculty members are divided into four teams namely GDI Engine team, CO₂ Capture & Separation Team, Fuel cell team and Electric Vehicle Team.
